What strategies do you use to maintain your health and wellbeing?

Fortuitous that I’ve been doing some work on updating my Fitness & Wellbeing page and today’s Jetpact daily prompt popped up, it looks like the prompt is originally from 2009 though? I don’t know how it all works but this works for my purposes so…

What strategies do you use to maintain your health and wellbeing?

Last year I began a 100 Days of Intentional Movement Challenge and fell in love with moving my body every single day. I hit 1 year on the 28th June 2023 and I’m still going strong.

This challenge changed everything about the way I viewed what ‘fitness’ was and by learning to enjoy movement I started to see huge improvements in my health and wellbeing. The biggest wellbeing plus has been taking time out every day to focus on my body, be it for 10 minutes or for 1 hour, there is something to be said for spending time on the mat with no phone and no talking (unless telling one of the people on the training videos I use that they are trying to kill me 😀 ) and just moving.

The health benefits are vast, I went from not moving nearly enough to dance workouts, to longer cardio workouts (taking up my beloved spinning again) to lifting weights becoming one of my favourite things to do (strength training being something I used to dislike immensely). The benefits of strength training feel never ending, but here are 14 that are backed by science:

  1. Makes you stronger
  2. Burns calories efficiently
  3. Decreases abdominal fat
  4. Can help you appear leaner
  5. Decreases your risk of falls
  6. Lowers your risk of injury
  7. Improves heart health
  8. Helps manage your blood sugar levels
  9. Promotes greater mobility and flexibility
  10. Boosts your self-esteem
  11. Makes your bones stronger
  12. Boosts your mood
  13. Improves brain health
  14. Promotes a better quality of life
