A very strange reading month, I’ve definitely been in a kind of slump the last while hence the rereading. Not sure how July will go but I ended the month reading a book that’s been on my TBR for 2 years and it was a beast so maybe I’m over the bump? If not I’ll just keep rereading I guess!
Wolf Rain (Psy-Changeling Trinity #3) 5⭐ & Alpha Night (Psy-Changeling #19) 5⭐ by Nalini Singh
I adore these new books, I feel like they are just getting better and better.
Slave to Sensation 5⭐, Visions of Heat 4⭐, Caressed by Ice 5⭐, Mine to Possess 4.5⭐, Hostage to Pleasure 5⭐, Branded by Fire 4⭐, Kiss of Snow 5⭐, Tangle of Need 5⭐, Heart of Obsidian 5 ⭐ (Psy-Changeling Series 1-6, 10, 11 & 12) by Nalini Singh
I was feeling super slumpy near the end of the month so went back to what brings me comfort.
Desperate Measures (Wicked Villains #1) 3⭐, Learn My Lesson (Wicked Villains #2) 3.5⭐, A Worthy Opponent (Wicked Villains #3) 3⭐, The Beast (Wicked Villains #4) 4⭐, The Sea Witch (Wicked Villains #5) 2.5⭐, Queen Takes Rose (Wicked Villains #6) 2⭐, Wicked Villains Shorts (Wicked Villains) 3.5 ⭐ by Katee Robert
Not my usual genre but I started book one and they are kind of addictive. I enjoyed the few days of escapism. I was on annual leave the week I read them and they are kind of perfect for that switch off and relax mentality.
Small Town Siren (Texas Sirens #1) 3⭐, Siren in the City (Texas Sirens #2) 3⭐, Siren Enslaved (Texas Sirens #3) 1 ⭐ , Siren Beloved (Texas Sirens #4) 3.5⭐ by Lexi Blake
Also read these on the week off and kind of hoped they’d offer the same escapism as the Wicked Villains books. These were actually really well written but I didn’t love all the characters and I don’t think it was for me. Siren Beloved was good but no real interest in continuing on.
Pestilence (The Four Horsemen #1) by Laura Thalassa 4 ⭐
This was really good but it was also a total bummer and may have been a bit too soon in terms of pandemics! 😀
Ride Steady (Chaos #3) 5⭐, Walk Through Fire (Chaos #4) 5⭐, Wild Like the Wind (Chaos #5) 4⭐ & Wild Fire (Chaos #6.5) 4⭐ by Kristen Ashley
Again with the rereading, I’d started the reread a while back but hadn’t finished so decided to end my month with Chaos. I didn’t read Free (Chaos #6) because in my mind it’s the worst end to a series ever and there are parts of it that just upset me and that’s not what I’m after when I reread!
All Boys Aren’t Blue by George M. Johnson 5 ⭐
This is a really gorgeous book and a very important read. Johnson’s frankness was so inspirational and I think will be such a gift to young Black LGBTQIA+ folxs but I think anyone who feels marginalised due to their race, sexuality or gender will get something out of this book. I personally think though that anyone who reads this will get something out of it.
The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon 4.5⭐
Loved this but would have loved a little bit more there at the end. Is it possible that 800 pages wasn’t enough? It had everything I want in a book. Multiple POV’s, strong female leads, fabulous characters, melt your heart love story, super strong world building with lots of map consulting (which I love) and most importantly of all DRAGONS!
