Face Cleanser – Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm

What is a face cleanser?

Cleansers are used to remove the normal accumulation of dirt and oils, makeup, sunscreen, remains of pollution, and dead skin cells. Cleansers are recommended for dry and sensitive skin as they are usually more gentle than face wash.

Here is the thing, I’ve always been confused about cleansers, facewash and toners. I’ve used all three over the years, sometimes at the same time and I’m learning that for my skin that is overkill. Facewash, no matter how gentle, really seems to irritate my skin. I’ve still not gotten a definitive answer about whether or not I need to use a facewash as well as a cleanser and I think the reason I’ve not is that it really depends on the individual?

The way I’m playing it for now is I’m only using cleanser and I’m only using it once a day.

This cleansing balm is lush!

One of the things I find with products for sensitive skin is they mostly lack any scent. I don’t need or want products that are strong smelling so it doesn’t always bother me, but when I can use a product that smells pleasant and won’t cause me to break out I get excited and this balm smells like a high end Spa. Each time I use it I feel like I’m giving myself a treat.

I’m currently using it once a day. In the evening after I shower. I like to put it on before my shower and then remove afterwards. It’s longer than recommended and lands more in the using it as a facemask category, especially if it’s a day I wash my hair, but after a month of using it this way I feel like it’s really working well for me. A little goes a long way especially once you start to spread it as it melts to an almost oily consistency.

I don’t wear makeup every day but I’ve had occasion to wear it a few times recently now that restaurants are starting to open here, and my makeup came off so easily with this, even the mascara. This alone makes it a worthwhile product as I’ve always found taking off makeup properly to be a real chore.

Something else I really love is the fact that the cream looks like lemon curd. I don’t know why this is so pleasant to me but it is and it makes me smile every time I use it.

I haven’t really come across any cons yet. Maybe the fact that because it’s in a pot, I often smear the mirrored lid when putting it back on after using, but I love the packaging so it just means I need to wipe the lid every day. It really doesn’t count as a complaint! 😀
