The Wiener Across the Way (The Cocky Kingmans #2) by Amy Award
This is a lovely little series, The Wiener Across the Way is Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce fanfic with:
- Kelce being a curvier Taylor (and the name is obviously a Kelce family shoutout).
- Declan being much grumpier than Travis.
- A Wiener the Pooh instead of a Meredith Grey, Olivia Benson, or Benjamin Button.
I’m a relatively new fan of Taylor and I do wonder how much I’d have enjoyed it if I wasn’t a fan at all, but as it stands I ate this up. It just made me feel all giddy!
Like the first book in the series this book was full of body and sex positivity. The sentence ‘consent is sexy’ even makes an appearance.
Also, like the first book a good amount of suspension of belief is needed. It’s over the top and insta love but it’s also great escapism!
I’ll continue this series but will take a little break before I do!
Love the content warnings for these books:
“This is a book of fluff. (Fluff that I worked really hard on and am extremely proud of.) It’s meant for escapism and laughs. We need fluff; it’s the insulation from the harsh world around us. I think it’s important to have fat representation in the media, and I do that by showing fat women getting happy ever afters without ever having to lose weight. However, that doesn’t mean there won’t be any conflict or angst. While it was really important to me to write a story with a confident plus-size – fat – curvy heroine whose inner strength and love for herself doesn’t waver, I will always put pieces of myself into every one of my curvy girl FMCs, and I’m still working on my own journey of self love – aren’t we all? That means that the heroine does face some external fatphobia in this book. It’s not the main storyline, but it sneaks in. There is also talk about loss of a parent in the past. Our Cocky Kingmans were raised by a single father. What I can promise you though is that my books will always hold a space that is free of violence against women including sexual assault. That just doesn’t exist in the world I create in my mind. And finally, I love to write about funny animals and pets. No pets will ever be harmed or die in any of my books. I like to cry at touching Super Bowl commercials and Broadway musicals about witches who defy gravity, not in my romances. *wink* Also, I full well known I’ve taken liberties with how the music industry works, and yes, I did a crap ton of research, and have made the choices I wanted anyway. IT’S MY WORLD, I DO WHAT I WANT *Knocks glass off the counter. I’m just sayin’ suspend a little disbelief, so you can swoon, and giggle, and kick your feet.

Synopsis:
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE SUNSHINY POP PRINCESS AND THE GRUMPY FOOTBALL PLAYER DISCOVER THERE’S MORE TO THIS FAKE ROMANCE THAN INSPIRATION FOR A NEW LOVE SONG?
Kelsey Best is America’s pop sweetheart and anyone who says they don’t like her music is a liar and needs to be punched in the nads. And I’ll do it too, because I’m the guy the NFL dubbed the ‘meanest player in the league.’ Great for my career on the field, not so much for my reputation off it.
So I’m shocked as hell when Kelsey’s team sends my agent a wild idea – they want a showmance between us. She’s looking to dodge the media frenzy after her breakup with Hollywood’s latest heartthrob, and I apparently fit the bill as her perfect distraction. My agent is convinced this fake dating stunt is the key to fixing my image.
But what happens when I fall for her? The whole world is going to hate me when we fake break up. But she’s going to create a blank space in my heart and I don’t think I’m going to be able to shake it off.
This plus-size curvy girl romance has a burnt cinnamon roll hero with a mean protective streak and a baddie plus-size pop star who is on the verge of burn out. But a Bridgertons-meets-American-Football family you’ll wish you were a part of will make sure they get their happy ever after.
