Quick April 2024 – Wrap-up

Two big book releases this month, while waiting for the perfect time to read them I reread some favourites by those authors! I just love new releases from authors I love. Very exciting.

I also started a new Lucy Score series which I’m very excited about and now need to wait for book 4 which doesn’t come out until July.

Flawless (Chestnut Springs #1) – 5⭐, Heartless (Chestnut Springs #2) – 5⭐, Powerless (Chestnut Springs #3) – 5⭐, Reckless (Chestnut Springs #4) – 4⭐, Hopeless (Chestnut Springs #5) – 5⭐& Christmas in Chestnut Springs (Chestnut Springs #5.1) – 4⭐by Elsie Silver

The new Elsie Silver (Wild Love) was released in April and I felt I needed a little Chestnut Springs reread before it was released. Note: The MMC in Wild Love is Willa’s (FMC in Heartless) brother.

This is a really fun series, so easy to read and super comforting.

First time reading the Christmas in Chestnut Springs novella.

Very cute with a chapter dedicated to each MMC from Chestnut Springs POV!

Rhett and Summer behaving like children and I love them for it.

Cade and Willa behaving like teenagers which was okay I guess.

Jasper and Slone kind of making me swoon!

Theo and Winter giving me out and out anxiety and I know Winter is a doctor and that women have given birth outside of hospitals for centuries but what did they do about the cord and the afterbirth, everyone is just going around for dinner with no thoughts about the newborn baby who surly shouldn’t have all those people around so soon. Can’t they wait like a day? It all felt like my actual worst nightmare!

Beau and Bailey being super cute. I especially liked that Bailey didn’t make a fuss about having to move EVERYTHING at short notice, I don’t approve of it happening in the first place, but I liked that she was happy to do it even though she was so excited about hosting.

This a must read if you loved Chestnut Springs and want a little revisit.

The Bone Shard Emperor (The Drowning Empire #2) by Andrea Stewart – 5⭐

This had a much more political feel than book one, because of that I probably wasn’t as engrossed as I was with The Bone Shard Daughter but that doesn’t mean I didn’t really enjoy it, it just took me a bit longer to read.

In The Bone Shard Emperor we get a lot more information about the Alanga and how the world of The Phoenix Empire came to be and ow it’s magic system works, we also get lots more character insight. I enjoyed all the different character relationship developments, especially between the Alanga and their ossalen.

The end of this book is definitely a cliffhanger and I’m very concerned about my favourite ossalen so I don’t think it will be too long before I pick up book three, I just know it’s going to be much more intense and I need to prepare myself for that!

Too Good to Be True by Kristen Ashley – 5⭐

Reread: So Avenging Angel was released on the 2nd April and I like to keep my new KA’s for the weekends so I can savour them and nap between chapters and perhaps a glass of wine here and there but this weekend I had visitors so I didn’t get to read my new KA but I had a taste for her so Too Good to be True reread it was.

I still really like this, it’s fun and gives me feelings and kind of makes me want to read some historical romance or watch some Downton Abbey!

Still Standing (Wild West MC #1) – 4⭐& Smoke and Steel (Wild West MC #2) – 5⭐by Kristen Ashley

More rereading prior to Avenging Angel being released, I didn’t love Still Standing when it was first released but I totally got into it this time around. Buck is still very aggressive and I can’t forgive him for one particular thing he did but there was a lot I liked about him that I don’t remember liking last time.

Really enjoyed Smoke and Steel I’m was not a fan of any of the Resurrection boys after what they did to Rosalie in Rough Ride (Chaos #4.5), I mean it’s unforgivable but I guess the fact that they all agreed they were trash human beings and are trying to redeem themselves is something.

I feel confused loving Core as much as I did, I will say the self hate and him not being an alpha douche in the slightest helped a lot. You couldn’t have done something like he did to Rosalie and then be a dickhead on top of that, he really sees himself as not worthy and well I’m a sucker for that.

Hellen is a doll and I adored her and her family, I’m so glad we got more of them after their appearance in Wild Wind, Hellen telling Andy he was her dad made me sob! LOVE them!

Avenging Angel (Avenging Angels #1) by Kristen Ashley – 4⭐

So I was a huge Rock Chick fan and when I tell you I screamed when I realised who Cap was!!

I really enjoyed Avenging Angel, it feels really old school KA in a brand new and vibrant setting. We get lots of old faces, I think all of them at one stage (which I do sometimes feel can be a bit OTT, I like a few of them but not every single one BUT maybe that’s just a treat for book one in this series) and a host of new and potentially very exciting characters.

The storyline is very silly but so did more or less all the Rock Chick books so I was jut here for the madness. Raye was adorable and her story made me so emotional. I honestly thought that her sister would be turn up alive. 😦

Cap was perfect, absolutely no notes!

Give me all the books in this series right now!

Eric next up, he was an FBI agent in the Rock Chick series and looks like it’s going to be a pretty significant age gap which I’m interested to read!

Wild Love (Rose Hill #1) by Elsie Silver – 4⭐

Ford is just a big grumpy teddy bear and he is a new favourite MMC!

Rosie was well able for him and I loved their banter. I will say though that I didn’t buy the ‘enemies to lovers’ thread that was kind of weaved throughout it. It felt a bit forced, I didn’t feel we needed to have that idea of enemies to lovers for their banter to work.

I really loved that she called him Junior. Literally made me smile each time she did it.

Cora and her story was a total first for me and I kind of loved it (although I hope this doesn’t happen in real life) and I loved how Ford became ‘a father’ and how he dealt with that relationship.

Strong start to this new series and a fabulous first chapter to the next book at the end.

And highly recommend getting the bonus epilogue from Elsie Silver. Oh boy did I cry!! 😀

Quiet Man (Dream Team #0.5) – 4⭐, Dream Maker (Dream Team #1) – 5⭐, Dream Chaser (Dream Team #2) – 3.5⭐, Dream Spinner (Dream Team #3) – 4⭐, Dream Keeper (Dream Team #4) – 4⭐by Kristen Ashley

This isn’t an all time favourite KA series but I do enjoy reading it from time to time. It feels Rock Chick-ish and after Avenging Angel I was in a mood and I’d recently enough read the Rock Chick series.

Dream Maker is my favourite out of the 5 books. Evie and Mag are cute and I liked the level of ‘danger’ involved in them getting together. I do miss the drama sometimes and her newer books don’t tend to have as much as they used to. Where is the running for their life through the mountains? 😀

After the Climb (River Rain #1) – 4⭐ Chasing Serenity (River Rain #2) – 4.5⭐, Taking the Leap (River Rain #3) – 5⭐, Making the Match (River Rain #4) – 3.5⭐Fighting the Pull River Rain #5) – 4, Sharing the Miracle (River Rain #5.5) – 4⭐by Kristen Ashley

I do really enjoy this series, it’s over the top and ridiculous, especially during a cost of living crisis but I find I enjoy stories of extortionately wealthy people when things aren’t great financially in the world. Look at Gossip Girl circa 2008! Watching those stupid rich people instead of worrying about a global recession was a wonderful distraction.

And so is River Rain!

Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door (Riley Thorn #1) – 4⭐, Riley Thorn and the Corpse in the Closet (Riley Thorn #2) – 4⭐, Riley Thorn and the Blast from the Past (Riley Thorn #3) – 4⭐, by Lucy Score

I like Lucy Score but I’ve struggled letting go of how over the top some of her books are and how, well frankly, juvenile her characters can be. I really did love the Knockemout series but the way some of them went on was less like 30 something year old and more like teenagers…

Do they behave any more mature in Riley Thorn?

Well no…

BUT…

I just loved EVERYONE!!

Every single over the top crazy one of them.

This series is just such fun reading and I think it was the psychic element, the fact that Riley is incredibly likable, her family are hilarious and sweet, her roommates are ridiculous and loveable, her best friend is a legend and her ex is such a douche that it makes me excited to see him get what’s coming to him. HE BETTER get what’s coming to him…

And then there is Nick Santiago. I love him and Riley together, their banter is hilarious and sweet as pie.

Oh and shoutout to the most important character of all, the bestest boy, Burt!

It’s all totally crazy but I’m all in.
