Quick April 2023 – Wrap-up

I read a few mediocre books at the beginning of the month and this caused a bit of a rereadathon followed by some monster romance followed by more rereading…

Radiant Sin (Dark Olympus #4) by Katee Robert – 3⭐

Meh…

I have liked the political intrigue in the other books but I didn’t enjoy it this time and it took away from Apollo and Cassandra. Even sexy time didn’t save it, although there wasn’t even much of that. Well much for Katee Robert that is!

Hooked (Never After #1) by Emily McIntire – 3⭐

I think I liked it? It was a bit OTT but that’s not actually a bad thing. I really could have done without the tongue thing to be honest. It was just a bit too much for me.

The plot was all a little too predictable but Wendy wasn’t too ‘too stupid to live’ and James wasn’t actually that bad, above tongue incident notwithstanding. He really should heed that ruling by fear advice for the future though, the guy was not wrong. I think I’d for sure read this author again!

The Will (Magdalene #1) – 5⭐, Soaring (Magdalene #2) – 4⭐ & The Time in Between (Magdalene #3) – 5⭐by Kristen Ashley

Such a fan of this trilogy, The Will is the book I got signed and personalised by KA while at Rare Paris and The Time in Between is one of my all time favourite KA’s. VERY hurt/comfort and when the comfort comes it’s the best. I do like Soaring but every single time I read it I hate Amelia’s children more!

Bounty (Colorado Mountain #7) by Kristen Ashley – 4⭐

I do love the main story and characters in this book but sometimes KA goes WAY overboard with the cameos and this is one of the books she does that in. Justice and her ‘Poet’s Soul’ was also annoying.

As I said though I loved Justice and Deke together and I also adored the music and listening to it while reading it really added to the experience and I can’t get ‘Simple Man’ out of my head no matter how hard I try and because of that a mental picture of Deke is also stuck in my head and that I can totally live with.

Doves & Demons (Freaks Of Nature) by Clio Evans – 4⭐

I feel like I need to create a shelf called ‘WILD AF’ and not going to lie, most of the books on that shelf would be Clio Evans and this would be the wildest. Man it was crazy and is the way with Clio Evans, I was hooked and had a fabulous time!

Are her books perfect? No, they aren’t.

Are they a blast? Yes, they are!!

You know what they do great as well, communication!! I was fucking over the moon that Irene actually told her monsters the truth at a really critical time and it’s something I’ve noted in her other books as well. This is such a novelty and something I need in a lot more to be honest!

Now, some of the sex scenes were confusing and for the life of me I couldn’t work out the logistics. How did they all fit there though? Who was where and how did they do that?

Usually this would be the kind of thing to annoy me but again, with Clio Evans I just can’t find it in myself to be annoyed by it. I just go with it and enjoy the wild ride! Literally! 😀

So this is their first full length novel and I can’t wait for the second book and I also can’t wait for The Scoundrel and the Satyr King or Thieves and Monsters and all the books in that series which are being released this year. Clio Evans really is the gift that keeps on giving!

Titan (Romancing His Stone #1) by Jillian Graves – 3⭐

I loved the start and then I just started to get frustrated, Julianna was a bit of a pain the arse a lot of the time to be honest. Titan was awesome. I want to read about the rest of the gargoyles though and I’m hoping that the heroines will be more likable. Rook and Eden are next but I feel like Violet the witch will get a book and even though we only met her briefly I think she will be a badass!

Magical Midlife Madness (Leveling Up #1) by K.F. Breene – 3⭐

I really wanted to like this more. The premise sounded like so much fun and it was actually laugh out loud funny at times and had an amazing mix of characters. It really should be great…

BUT…

I turned 40 September just gone and I honestly haven’t once felt old. Until I read this book. Jesus, the way Jessie went on you’d think 40 year old’s were decrepit and we should pack ourselves off to knackers yard. Not to worry though, she hangs onto those wrinkles and saggy boobs when the time comes because she ‘accepts herself’ or whatever. I know 40 is technically midlife but for me it doesn’t feel midlife and I don’t need the reminder thank you very much.

I’m sure the rest of the books are a fun ride, Mr Tom is my favourite, but when it wasn’t funny it was kind of bumming me out. I personally think 40 is awesome so I’d rather look for a book that represents that. If anyone has any recommendations pop them in the comments!

Kiss of Snow (Psy-Changeling #10) by Nalini Singh – 5⭐

After a few duds I needed a reread of one of my all time favourites. Kiss of Snow will never get old. Hawke and Sienna will always be a top tier couple. One day I’ll post my Psy-Changeline master post. Someday!! 😀

Rock Chick (Rock Chick #1) – 5⭐, Rock Chick Rescue (Rock Chick #2) – 4⭐, Rock Chick Redemption (Rock Chick #3) – 5⭐, Rock Chick Renegade (Rock Chick #4) – 5⭐, Rock Chick Revenge (Rock Chick #5) – 4⭐, Rock Chick Reckoning (Rock Chick #6) – 5⭐& Rock Chick Regret (Rock Chick #7) – 5⭐by Kristen Ashley

Another comfort read. Unfortunately I don’t love book 8 – Rock Chick Revolution – I may read it at some stage this year but the whole Kristen Ashley being a penname for Jane and that whole storyline was just so annoying, I couldn’t put myself through it again. It’s a real pity because I really do love Ally and Ren. Sometimes she does things that are really unnecessary and I’m finding that more and more as I get older and reread her books.

Heart of Obsidian (Psy-Changeling #12) by Nalini Singh – 5⭐

Reread number eight and it never gets old, actually I think it’s up there with Kiss of Snow now! Kaleb is scary AF but he is also one of my favourites!
