Romanceopoly —  Blossom Falls, Spring Fling Pride

Homegrown Magic by Rebecca Podos & Jamie Pacton

My final #Romanceopoly prompt for Blossom Falls and thankfully it was a super cute read. I was a bit worried as I’ve read a few duds for the challenge this quarter.

This prompt was to read a romance featuring LGBTQ+ characters or a book written by an LGBTQ+ author and I wanted to read something with LGBTQ+ rep that wouldn’t normally be my go to. This book had bi rep and non-binary rep which I haven’t read much of. The non-binary rep was done really well in my opinion and was really easy to get used to.

I love a dual POV and with this being a book written by two authors I knew I was going to get that dual POV goodness. It didn’t disappoint!

This is a cosy fantasy friends to lovers story and it was honestly just delightful. Yael and Margot  were so cute together and I loved how their relationship developed. It was all so cute and lovely.

I didn’t love the third act drama and couldn’t really understand Yael’s reasoning for cutting Margot out but it did lead to them discovering a fix for Margot and the village so I guess it was just to drive the plot forward.

It also wrapped up a bit too quickly and I just feel like the way Yael’s parents were so powerful and pretty determined to bring Yael up to scratch that they wouldn’t have given up so easily, I mean I’m glad they did and Yael and Margot got their HEA but it just seemed to not be in keeping with how their characters were portrayed.

All and all a nice read though and I look forward to more from this world!

Synopsis:

Yael Clauneck is the only scion of an obscenely wealthy banking family with its fingers in every pie in the realm. They’re on the precipice of a predetermined life when they flee their own graduation party, galloping away in search of . . . well, they’re not sure, but maybe the chance to feel like life can still be a grand adventure.

Margot Greenwillow—talented plant witch, tea lover, and greenhouse owner—has never felt further from adventure in her life. She’s been desperately trying to keep what remains of her family’s magic remedies business afloat. So when Yael, her childhood friend and former crush, rides back into her life, she’s shocked. But perhaps this could be a good thing. After all, Margot could use an assistant in the greenhouses.

Yael has no experience or, honestly, practical skills, but they’re delighted to accept the job. They can lay low for a while, flirting with Margot and figuring out what to do next. Meanwhile, Margot has plans of her own—but plans are notoriously unreliable, and unlikely to survive a swiftly blooming mutual attraction, not to mention the machinations of parents determined to get their heir back . . . no matter the cost.
