Travel blog – Bordeaux day 2

This year I would like to be more consistent with travel blogging. I usually failed at this in the past because I needed it to be perfect and that’s just not possible when blogging while travelling. So I’m just going to update on downtime while away and will add links to things we do and recommended places to eat and stay once I’m back.

Big day today. We came to Bordeaux for a birthday celebration and today the day arrived. So, it would be a day for being all about himself but I arranged a spin class for myself for first thing…

It was a cool spin but also kind of odd. The class was called ‘The Void’ which ended up translating as a recorded instructor in a dark room. The scary part was the bike. It moved. A lot. Lots of swinging side to side. It was actually lots of fun but some of the moves were trying to keep the bike still. It. Was. Hard. 🙃

But it was fun and when doing a class in a place you don’t know not having an instructor could be seen as a bonus, oh, and did I mention I was the only person doing it? 😂

After the spinning I did the 6 minute walk to the hotel did the shower and change and headed into the city. We got off at the bridge stop…

And then for a snack because I was starving.

France seems to be great for gluten free bakeries, not great for gluten free substitutions in restaurants but bakeries dedicated to being gluten free? So far I’ve found one everywhere I go. This time a cool space that also has an art gallery.

We then we went for a small wonder and I was hungry about 30 minutes later so we made our way to a highly recommended restaurant where we ordered duck confit and got a duck confit pie that blew us both away!

There was also a cheese starter and a caramel crème brûlée that couldn’t be beat. I’ll post all the restaurants and what they cost once I get home because the value for money is crazy.

After lunch we wondered for a while again…

And then found a wine bar that was ridiculously cheap, with fabulous wine and had the perfect atmosphere…

We spent a few hours there because a good glass of wine was €3.50 so moving would have been stupid! Once we were done there we were hungry again so made our way to our next duck confit destination.

Two very good duck confit and two large glasses of wine for €42.00. Can’t recommend this spot enough (will post details once I’m home).

The thing about duck confit is that it’s a cheap dish and often dismissed but when it’s done well, which is often in cheaper establishments, it’s a show stopper. This place served it with a little garnish and a big bowl of fries and dressed salad leaves and it was perfection. Also need to shout out our amazing waiter who was our best server since we got here!

After all the eating and wine we made our way back to the hotel before 9pm where the birthday boy is watching his football team play football. They aren’t a bad team but it’s his birthday so they’ll probably disappoint him.

I’m reading my book! 😂
