Quick March 2023 – Wrap-up

My March reading was a little chaotic to be honest.

I started strong with books I hadn’t read before and then lost my way again and just decided to start a big Kristen Ashley reread. As I’ve said many times before, you do what you need to do!

Lunatic (Necessary Evils #6) by Onley James – 4⭐

Adore this crazy ass series, this may not have been my favourite but overall I enjoy the chaos of the Mulvaney’s! Maniac is the next and last book in this series and I’m not ready for it to be over just yet so I’ll save it for a while.

Best Man (Close Proximity #1) – 4⭐, Charlie Sunshine (Close Proximity #2) – 4⭐ & After Felix (Close Proximity #3) – 4⭐by Lily Morton

Can’t beat a Lily Morton for low stakes MM romance. I always find them utterly delightful and this trilogy is no exception. Fun and easy.

Surrender to the Cyborgs (Interstellar Brides: The Colony #1) – 3⭐, Mated to the Cyborgs (Interstellar Brides: The Colony #2) – 3⭐& Cyborg Seduction (Interstellar Brides: The Colony #3) – 2⭐by Grace Goodwin

I do like a little bit of an Alien mate trope and this worked well. As of May 2023 this series is on KU and free on Audible. Not as bingey as I’d like but they are an okay palette cleaner. Didn’t enjoy number three at all so decided to stop but as long as they are free it’s highly likely I’ll pick this series up again.

Complicated by Kristen Ashley – 5⭐

One of my go to KA comfort reads. I just enjoy everything about Complicated, it’s farfetched and over the top but it just ticks all my boxes for a good romance.

Three Wishes by Kristen Ashley – 4⭐

Not my favourite but worth a reread. You can really see how far KA has come in her writing.

Nate was a bit much and there was for sure some consent issues. BIG ones! The total lack of communication was also very maddening but I likes the ridiculousness of the genie and it’s a very good second chance storyline!

Motorcycle Man (Dream Man #4) by Kristen Ashley – 5⭐(ebook) & 3⭐ (audiobook)

7th read and did an audiobook reread. I’m sorry to say that Kate Russell is the worst narrator out all the KA narrators. ALL her voices are terrible but Tacks is enough to ruin the book. If I was to rate this just on the narration it would be 3 stars. 3 stars for one of my favourites!! CRAZY!! Susannah Jones would have been perfection for the Dream Man and Chaos books. I hope one day there will be a replacement because I don’t think I’m alone in my dislike. Such a shame!!

Sommersgate House (Ghosts and Reincarnation #1) – 4⭐, Lacybourne Manor (Ghosts and Reincarnation #2)– 4⭐, Penmort Castle (Ghosts and Reincarnation #3) – 4⭐, Fairytale Come Alive (Ghosts and Reincarnation #4) – 5⭐, Lucky Stars (Ghosts and Reincarnation #5) – 4⭐by Kristen Ashley

I find this a fun series, very much early KA and it’s always lovely to revisit those early days. Fairytale Come Alive is still my favourite, a lot of hurt/comfort and it always makes me super emotional. I love their HEA but to be fair all the HEA’s in this series are lovely.

The Girl in the Mist (Misted Pines #1) – 3⭐, The Girl in the Woods (Misted Pines #2) – 3⭐ by Kristen Ashley

I would love to like this series more.

I feel like these books are trying to gaslight me to be honest. There is this whole outward message of each to their own when it comes to kink but then all these horrendous crimes are committed and their kink is kind of used as the reasoning behind those crimes. It’s very uncomfortable.

As with the last book though, I really like all the characters. I feel so conflicted.

The Mysterious and Amazing Blue Billings (Black and Blue #1) – 4⭐by Lily Morton

I was about to give this 3 stars but then I thought about how I was actually a little freaked out a few times while reading it and there were also some laugh out loud moments and therefore it deserves to move up into the ‘really like’ category.

I liked the ghost storyline and I liked the Blue and Levi storyline. I think this is also kind of a slow burn in Lily Morton terms and actually I kind of adored that aspect.

A fun, sometimes a little spooky, cute read. I’ll take more of this please!

For You (The ‘Burg #1) – 5⭐, At Peace (The ‘Burg #2) – 5⭐, Golden Trail (The ‘Burg #3) – 4⭐, The Promise (The ‘Burg #5) – 4⭐ & Hold On (The ‘Burg #6) – 5⭐by Kristen Ashley

This is another favourite series of mine, well apart from Mike’s book, (Games of the Heart), Mike is an utter asshole but I’ll likely read his book at some stage this year because I can’t help myself.

What I like about this series is that there is a phycological thriller feel to most of the books while still giving romance. You’ll notice that I read this very shortly after the Misted Pines books, I think this series is what she is trying to recreate with Misted Pines (while adding a Twin Peaks vibe) but I feel like she can’t top For You or At Peace in particular!
